What we do:
If you’ve had a look at our web site, you’ll know that Caltech repairs and maintains laboratory equipment for universities, hospitals, government research labs and industry organizations.
The equipment we repair and maintain is generally described as "controlled atmosphere chambers." These chambers range from the size of a microwave oven to that of a large room. The conditions that this equipment monitors and controls include temperature, humidity, gases, water quality, and pressure to name a few.
Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for service technicians: resourceful, hard-working individuals who know how to get our customers’ equipment back up and running in a minimum of time.
Education:
You’ll have a high school diploma, and, possibly, a degree or diploma in a technology-related field from a community college or university.
Skills:
Caltech can provide training on the specific nature of the equipment it handles, but fundamental technical knowledge is required of the candidate. The equipment is such that the service technician must have a good knowledge of electro-mechanical, electronic and temperature controls and timers. Other desirable areas of knowledge include:
- refrigeration circuit knowledge
- experience repairing various devices
- knowledge and use of tools, meters, gauges
- awareness of various types of sensors and controls
- applications of pumps, compressors, and valves
- circuit board component identification
Work Environment:
The service technician’s repair work is done primarily at our customers’ sites so you must be able to confidently and professionally interact with a wide range of people: researchers, purchasing agents, administrators, technologists, etc. Good verbal and written skills are a must.
Caltech's customers’ premises are generally controlled, interior, and clean places to work. Our company dress code is "business casual."
Travel:
We service the whole province of British Columbia so from time to time you’ll need to travel out of town. You’ll need a valid driver's license and your own vehicle. Occasionally air travel is also required inside and outside Canada.
Compensation
We offer a salary (in line with your experience) plus performance pay.
