Introducing remote monitoring for Ultra Low Temperature Freezers.
The issue: Customers are requesting remote control over their freezer stored assets.
The solution: Using existing information technology Caltech will supply a software control solution for remote monitoring of ultra low freezers. Existing alarm systems for ultra low freezers can only provide dry contact (alarm on-off) information for out of tolerance freezer temperatures, which may be connected to alert a monitoring service. This usually still requires on-site physical intervention by trained and expensive personnel.
Adapting existing technology now allows us to broadcast intelligent data by website, reporting of performance criteria to remote monitoring stations via e-mail, cell phone or pager. A responsible person can then judge and determine the type of intervention that is necessary to preserve the assets in freezer storage. This can be done from any location that is convenient to the researcher/owner. And best of all, it is readily affordable.
